A Resurrection Story ~ The Worth of A Man
The worth of a man is in laying down his life for his brother without expectation. Danny is the epitome of giving without requiring anything in return.
Where does one start when trying to put together words that best describes Danny Visargie AKA Danny Visargie in America where he lived for 38 years. I am writing this tribute while in Los Angeles with him. He wanted nothing more than to show me the world that has been so good to him and afforded him the opportunity to study and earn a degree in electrical engineering; specialising in water automation. He is father to Amber and Lisa Visargie and granddad to Leila. Now also stepdad to my sons and grandfather to my 3 grandsons and soon to be 4th.
You are reading this tribute because you know Danny at one level or another. It is easy to buy gifts I think he'd love but I really wanted to leave a timeless gift. As a writer I thought it apt to put my gift to paper and in addition share your thoughts about him through your comments.
Daniel Brian Petersen was born to Sarah Petersen in the informal settlement Rooi Akkers in Goodwood. Cape Town, South Africa. He Attended St Anthony's Primary School where he won several eisteddfod awards for singing.
A young naughty teen rebelled against institutionalised education. He had very little interest in going to school. With his mother and stepfather Peter Visargie.moved to Manenberg It was during this time a teacher told him he'd end up just like another Manenberg skollie. He couldn't envision a successful future. He dropped out of school and worked as a messenger boy for Southern Life in Cape Town. Eventually he did a skills course in welding that armed him with ammunition for good contracts and income.
A sports coach and youth worker Michael Davey discovered Danny could sing and enlisted him for a music group called The Transformers. He helped Danny's confidence and thus started a legendary history in music ministry that eventually led to international travels with African Sonrise under the leadership of Henry Louw.
Danny's voice was easily identified within the African Sonrise band and his deep smooth tones a signature.
While African Sonrise toured America in the 80's Danny started desiring more for his life and embraced an opportunity to study Electrical Engineering. This he did while holding down a daily job.
We take this time to celebrate a gifted, kindhearted and generous man. A beloved friend. A man not unfamiliar with the pain of growing up without knowing his father but who successfully was nurtured and raised by his stepfather.
He has his own stories of pain, mistakes and bad choices but most importantly a story of the forgiveness of God. The passage of mercy well trudged. The dark places were overwhelming but softened by a mother's endless belief in him.
A mother who taught him how to give his all.
Sarah Visagie was Danny's gift of love and light.
The greatest worth of a man is observed by how he bows before the God of unmerited grace. Danny knows this passage well.
His is a resurrection story.

Earlier in life words of discouragement were spoken over you Dan. Thankfully the love of parents and significant other people spoke volumes on who you were to become.
Our hearts rejoice at how the steps of the righteous are ordered by our maker.Happy Birthday and enjoy this new adventure as you share this chapter with Beulah. Which apparently means bride or married!! Daniel in return means God’s my judge! So only Gods opinion of you has always mattered above what people would say!. Blessings from Hungary. Lots of love from Anne and Isaac ❤️

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND, Mr Danny Visagie.
Celebrating a 70th birthday, is undoubtedly a milestone, especially with your youthful personality.
Yes my buddy… right now I’m reflecting on our journey as friends… and I realise afresh that I see you today not only as a Singer Soloist… but also an Electrical Engineer, a Family Man… and also a man well connected to his roots, your upbringing, or shall I say your cultural lineage & family history.
Yes buddy, our FRIENDSHIP spans about 40yrs, can you believe it.
I remember that at 20 yrs of age I was a member of The Peninsula Choristers, a Semi Professional 40-Voice, Mixed-Voice Choir who traveled South Africa extensively & Dottie, your Mom’s younger sister was a fellow member and part of the Alto Voices. That how I met your Mom & them for the first time.
A couple of years later, the two of us met and became friends. Then we both became members of African Sonrise, a semi professional contemporary Gospel Music Band where we traveled together locally & abroad.
During my later visits to the America, your kindness as a buddy I greatly admired. You would always check if I’m alright & comfortable where I’m staying. Things like … “By the way, Winston… is everything going right according to your schedule?” You would constantly check with me whether I’m having a good time in the states… etc. Then of course, there were incidents in the past where some of our home buddies from Cape Town ended up with setbacks concerning their travel-arrangements in the States… & you Danny would always be the one who will run to rescue such situations.
Somebody said … “the world is more beautiful and life more bearable because people like you exist.”
I’ve heard this phrase more than once… “Gratitude is the open door to abundance."
Meister Eckhart said … “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is THANK YOU, it will be enough."
So Danny, deep in my heart is an immense appreciation & thanks for our friendship, my buddy. HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY !!πππ
Kind regards,
Winston Pienaar
Danny you are one with a kind heart and loving spirit. You are a down to earth human being and never wants to be acknowledged for what you do and yet you have done so many great things. I was honored to be hosted by you in your house in California when I went to the funeral of Andrae Crouch. When you visited your Dad, and found out that I was unwell, amidst your busy schedule, you took time out to visit me and prayed for me. Danny has never changed since I met him during African Sonrise era and we will remain friends. I will always treasure you as my dear friend and brother.
Happy 70th BIRTHDAY Danny.
We love and appreciate you
Retirement in Cape Town and traveling the world must be a wonderful adventure, and we hope this special day is filled with joy, laughter, and the beautiful surroundings you today. May this year bring you even more happiness and cherished memories.
Here’s to celebrating you today and always. Wishing you a fantastic birthday and a year ahead filled with all the things you love!
Love,
Amber, Lisa, and Leila

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANNY.... On this very VERY special day in your life I wish You everything and more that you could ever ask for or imagine buddy... I just know you are having a fabulous time right now....
Dan, when I first heard of you as a person of interest to a very dear friend of mine, I was filled with a measure of trepidation and concern for my friend because I knew what she had gone through in her life up until that time, and I was afraid of history repeating itself... Very afraid, to be honest. Meeting you for the first time I was struck by your gentle, quiet demeanor and easy going style, but I was not convinced that you were "The One"...
Since then my brother, at all our subsequent engagements over lunches, dinners and outings, I became more and more convinced that I had nothing to fear for the well being of my friend, because encapsulated in you I saw and experienced your kindness, your generosity, your virtue, your caring spirit, your love for her, the respect you show her, with that ever present slow smile of yours.
What was also very apparent is your love for God.. it was then that I knew you were... "The One."
Danny, I am blessed to have you as my friend. Your character and personality makes you the easiest person in the world to interact with. So boet, on this your special day, I thank you for coming into "our lives" and making it richer with your presence my brother...
Dan, I leave you with this scripture my friend... "No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly"...
*Psalm 84 v 11...*
As you have walked uprightly, the Lord has favored you with many blessings over the the years, especially your family, but none more so than the "good thing" he bestowed upon you with a loving life partner to have and to hold, and with long life. God is the best judge of what is good for us, withholding nothing.
Enjoy your birthday buddy...
Your Friend
Leon Michaels...
